Cross post - nuke plant down?greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread |
Duane Arnold unit 1 located near Palo IA., went down yesterday mourning. Orignally on their local news listed as a Y2K problem. Our local news in central IA. said it was due to a redundant safety system. Seems to be a sensor went off that had to due with overheating of the rods and locked the plant down. people told not to worry yet plat shut down for at least a week, will not allow flight over plant. Very little in the news on this, wasn't even a top news item here. Sound suspicious ? Overheating rods? Not a problem? will try to gather more info.

--it's allright, happens all the time, in fact, according to board insiders and researchers, nuke plants are always down because of refuelling, scheduled maintenance, testing, sunspots and dandruff. Because of this, all reports of "down" should be regarded as "normal" in fact "down" is "up" so they can keep having their checks direct deposited into their fully functioning accounts with no glitches.BTW, thanks for the report, all these little anecedotal things are all we have to go on, because...........ITAIN'TWHYTOOKAY

"Reactor SCRAM on spurious low LVWL during I&C maintenance". Now forgive my ignorance of nuclear power plant terminology, but would "I&C" happen to be "Instrumentation and Controls"? You know, those monitoring instrument and control systems that EMBEDDED DEVICES are used in?How many times does it have to be said? And if it isn't Y2K it's one helluva interesting coincidence.
