I've had great luck with the Microtech Cameramate USB. Easy set-up, works great. Fast! Reads both SmartMedia and Compact Flash cards.

I recently got the SanDisk reader and have been very happy with it for my compact flash cards. If you anticipate the need for reading more than one type of card, then the Microtech reader is the probably the best. The SanDisk is cheaper; I found it for less than $55. Luther

Melvin,I installed a new Microtech Cameramate over the Christmas break, and it has been just great. Very simple to install, providing access to both smartmedia and compact flash cards. It was a little more than the Sandisk ($77 at CDW), but the flexibility helped me solve the problem of having multiple readers for multiple formats.
If you are a smartmedia user now, you might consider the small extra investment for future flexibility.

To those who responded to my inquiry, thank you very much. I decided to go with New Media USB Film Reader which has 2 slots...one for CompactFlash & SmartMedia and another for ATA Flash Cards...transfer rate up to 1.5MB/sec. Placed order Monday with Computers4sure $74.99 plus $8.10 UPS ground. Should be here by Thursday 1/13/00. Hope I made the right decision.
