At least according to my dry cleaners (Battiston's, a central Connecticut chain). I pointed it out to the employees and we all had a good laugh.

They must have a totally brain-dead IT group!

Yup, now that's a glitch....still seems strange to write 1/7/00 though, doesn't it?

it is humorous. yet you have to ask--with all these funny little dates showing up everywhere--at what point do they get serious? and begin to cause disruptions in work.

e.g., obviously this is no big deal for the day to day processing of clothes. yet what about processing and reporting on week to week, month to month and year to year transactions of business?

Imagine a world where all commerce was conducted using coins. Next, imagine that these coins came in a variety of sizes and colors.

Now imagine that the only way to tell the denomination of any particular coin was to scrutinize it, and a 25 cent piece might be the size and shape of a quarter -- or a penny, or a dime, or...

Finally, imagine how efficent the wheels of commerce would become as each transaction slowed to a snail's pace, as buyers and sellers carefully determined the actual value of each coin.

Now bring it all home by thinking "dates" instead of "cents".
