Hey, I have been searching for a long time on how to create a VCD through Adaptec VideoCD Creator 4.0 that has seperate chapters WITHOUT a menu and intro MPG and the other stuff. I just want to be able to pop in the CD, start playing the VCD and jump ahead if I want to (like an audio CD). Nothing fancy. Can anyone please help me?? thanks!!

here is what i have found out. lets say for whatever reason i have 3 cartoons i want to put on vcd. i have each of them as their own saved mpeg file. when i put them in the easy creator 4 (using the wizard simple set up) and when it gets to "add" i just put them all in and burn the vcd. When its done i can use the "previous" and "next" on my dvd remote and it jumps ahead or back to whatever episode i want (hence chapters). HOWEVER at the end of a new chapter it will stop playing for a second or two then play(no its not an interruption). I have a feeling all this is doing is putting in the 2 or 3 second gap that happens on regular audio cds sometimes (where it counts down 3 seconds before it plays the current track) TO get RID of this before you burn your cd you would select "disc at once" on the easy cd 4. I have a feeling the samething can be applied to the vcds. that choice of "disc at once" is there right before i burn for vcds, but i havent tried it out. But im sure this will work since it will not have any space before or after a track. hopefully resulting in continuos play with chapter stops

Interesting comment Doug.

I do not know what adaptec does but the gap between tracks is usually set by the burner program. For example in Nero it is 5 seconds and that is not changeable from within the program. In Video Pack 4 you can change that to any value and zero gave almost instant change between tracks but it was still noticable.

I thought the spec for VCD's did not allow "disk at once" but your tests indicate it does so in combination with changing the programmed default time, true chapters might be possible then.

Hey, Doug (or anyone else that knows a bit about Adaptec). I tried making a VCD on Adaptec through the wizard. But the problem is, whenever I try Adding MPGs, after the FIRST MPG, on the second I get an error message that reads:

"Name.mpg: An MPEG player has not been detected. You will need to install an MPEG player such as Microsoft's ActiveMovie to create Video CDs."

How can I correct this problem?? Does having an older version of Adaptec or having the Xing Player affect this?

UNFORTUNETLY ITS THE XING PLAYER THATS GIVING YOU THE TROUBLE. THE aDAPTEC AND XING BOTH USE A WINDOWS APLAYER AND EACH LIKES THIER OWN TO BE THE DEFAULT. THIS IS CAUSING YOUR PROBLEM. HOW TO FIX THIS. WHAT I DID WAS UNINSTALL THE XINGPLAYER AND ENCODER COMPLETEY. THEN REINSTALL THEM. BUT-- WHEN YOU WANT TO VIEW CLIPS JUST KEEP USING YOUR WINDOWS FILE PLAYER(OR WHATEVER YOU HAVE) TO VIEW THEM. DONT JUST DOUBLE CLICK THE FILE YOU WANT TO PLAY, OTHERWISE THE XING PLAYER WILL TAKE OVER. THIS WAY THE ADAPTEC WILL LET YOU LOAD IN MORE THEN ONE CLIP WITHOUT A PROBLEM, AND AT THE SAMETIME, XING WILL STILL LET YOU USE THIER ENCODER AS ITS SEEING YOU HAVE THEIR PLAYER TO GO WITH IT, HENCE EVERYONE IS HAPPY

Doug, thanks for all your prompt replies. I see what you're saying. But I went to Media Player and set MPGs to use Media Player as the default player. Now when I double click on a MPG, MediaPlayer plays it. But unfortunately, I still have the same problem with VideoCD Creator 4.0. BUT, I found that I was able to add more than 1 MPG to VCD Creator by dragging and dropping from Windows Explorer into the VCD Creator window (the frame that says "Clips in Video CD Layout". (Not using the wizard).

If I drag these MPGs from that window into the "Contents of Video CD Layout" Under "Sequences" NOT "Menus" would that be the same instead of going through the wizard to set it up? Because I found that when I test burned a CD, I could not jump through chapters. Instead, in my DVD player, it has them as different Titles, not Chapters. For example, say I had 3 cartoons on different MPGs. Going through my way the resulting CD looks like:

Title 1 Chapter 1 Title 2 Chapter 1 Title 3 Chapter 1

I know I'm asking alot, but I'm really eager to start creating fully functional VCDs. Thanks

hmmm? to be honest since i always do simple vcd burns i really havent played to much using theo ther way besides the wizard. And when i have i just ignore what it says, draggged in my clips and ythey still came out the same. i will try some things out though and let you know

Assuming everything else is okay (MPEG Player driver, etc.), it's really easy making straight-play VCDs without menus with Easy CD (ver 1.1). Without using the wizard, after putting together all your clips on the left pane on Easy CD's GUI, and they were all accepted, it's a simple matter now to just drag them in the order you want them to play over to the right pane, under the tab 'start sequence'. This tab is the only one with contents in it for a straight-play VCD, nothing else. Do not put anything of course in the menu tab. After this you click disc>properties>validate to see if your now virtual VCD layout is okay. Then choose create CD from layout and you take it from there.

I dont really know much about adaptec but i have been surfing the web on how to create cartoons animations and putting them on VCDs. I mean making cartoon movie e.g tom and jerry and others. I dont know the pregram to use, and even how to use the program, but i am eager to know it. I will be glad if i can get help from anyone Faluyi raphael
