What do you do with your systems on Sept 28th?greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread |
Could Malcolm, Ed or someone tell me what is done with these systems that they've set back to 1995 or 1990 when they get to September 28th? We've seen different people saying that they set systems back to 97 or 95 or 10 years. I can understand picking 96 since Feb would have 29 days that year also.I'm used to working on back office systems where this would matter. Does it not matter for these systems where the date were rolled back or are they thinking they can get new software in by then? If they don't do they just adjust the date at midnight of the 28th or does it not matter that the days would then be messed up?
Perhaps Malcolm's 101 document will give me a clue.

I have heard that the calendar for the year 1972 is the same as 2000 (i.e. January 1st, 1972 and 2000 were both on a Saturday, and both years were leap years), and that some people have set the year for some machines to 1972 as a temporary fix.
