Y2K bit me at 04:30 this morninggreenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread |
I have mentioned in a previous thread how one of the remote control systems at our group of power stations was known to be not Y2K ready. As a work around to keep it running untill the supplier could provide a patch, we ran one of its servers 10 years back. The controller on duty during the rollover was supposed to swirch to that server shortly before the event, but he forgot, and everything appeared to be running well on the non compliant server. So we decided to leave it that way and see what would happen. At 4:30 this morning, as I was preparing to pull down the previous day's generation data for a daily report, the system crashed with an error message saying that its licence had expired. However I was able to change over to the other server and maintain control of the remote station, but that report will just have to be prepared by hand for yesterday.

Malcolm,Thank you sir. I hope this is the only glitch you run into :-)! Thank you especially for the info regarding running a system "10 years back".
Happy New Year.
