Need advise on CF card readers to be used with Canon A-50. There are several selections...Kingston, SanDisk, Newmedia, etc. To be used with Dell desktop. Serial, parallel, USB ????? Any advice appreciated.

Forget serial. It is too slow. USB and parallel are essentially the same speed. USB is my personal preference for several reasons. The ability to hot connect and disconnect is nice. Parallel interface readers cannot be used simultaneously with your printer. If you are downloading images you must wait until finished before attempting to print. You generally can only have one parallel device in addition to your printer. I have heard of multiple devices all connected to the parallel port working, but it would be an exception. The number of USB devices connected at once is not generally a concern.

So far as brand, I like the SanDisk unit. I have one that has worked flawlessly from day one. They are available for about $50.
