How can one break up large files for floppy transfers between computers? I am running into this for w95y2k.exe, which is 2.3 Mb, on ~1.4Mb floppies. TIA...

You can use the free program Pkzip.exe to
break large files onto floppies.
The -& command is the trick.
To span the file large.ext on to floppies:
pkzip -& large.zip large.ext
I put a batch file on the last disk to
make a directory and unzip the file.
You need Pkunzip.exe to unzip it.

Personal experience...it doesn't always work well. Buuuut...never used PKzip-which, if I remember is a DOS program. You can go over to ZDNet and check around, they have several file splitting utilities. I would reccomend spending the $50 to $100 and getting a Zip drive or an Imation Superdisk. I like the Superdisk because it will read/write to 3.5" floppies as well as it's own disks. One note- I tried a Zip drive and had probs installing it-apent two hours on their 'Tech Support' listening to the worst canned muzak ever before I took it back and got the Superdisk. had probs with the Superdisk and the Imation 'Tech' sucked just as much...but I tweaked it and it works fine. Just a few more options to confuse you! ;)

Best splitter (simplest and free) I ever saw is at www.sarasoft.com. Still use it today as it has a very small footprint.

Anyway, try to find PK250DOS.EXE this is the file which self extracts to DOS with zip and unzip progs.

If you dont know DOS or dont understand the above, skip it.

I used to use a dos program that worked 100% of the time. It was called fchop2 and was very easy to use.
