Howdy folks,Just wanted to pass along a link to a community that is dedicated to poultry in all forms. The name of the community is The Hen House. There is a real nice group of people involved and they seem real helpful. I hope you will find this to be of interest.

Thanks, we'll take a peek. Our daughter is in poultry 4-H so if it seems appropriate we'll let the members know too!

I don't like re-inventing the wheel. We'd like to purchase enough poultry to supply a moderate meat supply for our family of four ( two adults, two boys under 10 ).
We'd like recommendations from others who have been well served by those in the business of selling young meat chicks.
Similarly, we'd like enough laying hens to provide a moderate supply of eggs for our family as well and would appreciate a similar recommendation from any who have had good experiences with vendors as wells.
Your thoughtful recommendations will be greatly appreciated !!

I have had good experiences with the Murray McMurray Hatchery. I have not ordered meat birds, but only layers. I like the price, variety, and service. The prices of poultry equipment are high there, so I get those locally or elsewhere. I got chicks from a local feed store from a local provider once and they were not healthy and that was very disappointing for me. I have had no such problems with McMurray. They have a web site, but the catalog is a great resource for breed descriptions and you will probably want a hard copy.

I have had really good luck with Murray McMurray Hatcheries. They sent extra chickens with our order and we lost only one. I still think that had something to do with our Aussie trying to brood the poor thing. We live in RURAL Alaska and the delivery was right on time. All chicks were healthy and are still doing great without electricity. I don't know where you are, but if they can guarantee delivery and good service to me then they certainly deserve a try.
