I turned my computer off around 11:30 p.m. last night and waited for the power to go off at midnight. Not even a flicker so I went to bed. I woke up about 10 minutes ago so I thought I would turn the computer on to see what would happen. I held my breath and closed my eyes as it powered up. I opened my eyes and I couldn't believe it, I had my usual screen, everything looked great. I then clicked on to connect and held my breath again, it worked! I did not install any patches whatsoever, I was too chicken to because I was afraid it would screw my computer up. Anyway, hope you all have a Happy New Years Day, and now the fun begins.

Me too! I felt the same way about the damn patches cuz I just bought this a few months ago and don't want to wreck it with more junk (if it ain't broke don't fix it!). All is fine with Win 98 SE (so far).

Thanks Donna, same to you. Another thing I just realized is that my puter is about 10 times faster on this forum now that all of the trolls are passed out. It was really dogging for a while there earlier.

Well I did download the patches and installed Norton Anti Virus.Well that screwed up my internet connection & caused a few other minor glitches so I was not a happy bunny for a while.But its now back to normal & I know I haven't got any bugs in the system. So a big sigh of releif.I know exactly how you feel !

Is anybody but me having serious questions about their sanity and wondering how they can ever to do a risk assessment on anything as complicated as crossing the street without holding a big person's hand?

Before you actually use your computers with applications and data, I suggest that you review what the patches were intended to do. There is a lot more to Y2K concerns than power losses at rollover. Misbehaving applications, corrupted data, etc., come to mind.

My ole 486 & Win 3.1 are working. I turned the date back a few years which will make my tape backups next time really wierd. I just didn't want to risk even looking at 2000 with a 5 year old 'puter. I realize I can't do date spreadsheet applications or do a good database but I'll get another machine sometime this year.

I am just so happy I can still get on the net and talk to you guys.

Hmmmm... I'm on my 1997 P233 now, which I think I remember running some downloaded tests on a few months back.

But behind me on the shelf is my 1994 Dell P90 which I ran the BIOS patch on at 5 minutes to midnight (after cowardlike setting the clock back from 11PM to 11AM to give me more time). It's still on but I haven't turned the screen on yet -- I suspect it somehow "knows" that I tried to fool it, and somewhere inside it kept track of the real date.

I left my computer running all night. Sometime after midnight EST I disconnected from my ISP when I realized there were no immediate global disasters. I was feeling wonderful relief yet I was still moving preps around for relocation to some other sites miles away. Then I started a complete defrag and later had some really weird dreams.

This morning I awakened, heard the gas furnace running, drew some water from a faucet and saw the comforting glow of my Optiquest V95 monitor indicating that the defrag was complete, so I tried to log onto my ISP. On the first attempt: NO CONNECTION! I wondered if my ISP had bitten the dust. But I connected the second time, so no big deal.

When I go back to work on Monday, I'm positive all the pollies will have their happyhappy-joyjoy at mocking me. I don't care. I've warned them far more about the coming stock market crash than Y2K. I shifted gears in mid99 because I became convinced that this current market mania cannot be sustained. The longer its postponement, the worse its crash. And Infomagic can take his wooden nickel to the bank.
