Not only did they cancel the massive 50,000 person gala, they just cancelled the mini party that was going to be held privately in the needle itself.

Y2k (the problem) may or may not wind up a big fizzle, but Y2k (the parties and big celebrations) sure are taking it in the shorts.

Notice how for some time they were assuring us that the party would go on. No problems foreseen, or at least no problems that couldn't be dealt with by TPTB so rapidly and effectively that the people wouldn't even notice them. Now TPTB are admitting that there is a big problem. Hope this isn't a preview of y2k. TPTB have been assuring us that the party would go on....Mousie

What absolutely bothers me the most is the repetition of "there is no known direct threat, but...". Sounds like a case of methinks thou dost protest too much. Sounds too much like we don't expect any Y2K problems but... there is always that 3 day storm to watch out for.
