Hey Folks,

One of the elders I serve with has a son just starting out in the ministry. The young man called a few weeks ago and I made reference to John D. Davis's "Dictionary of the Bible." I've had it for 20 plus years and have always liked it. It is full of information and J. Davis is a conservative O.T. scholar.

His father called last night. He wants to buy him the book and he wanted more information from me. As I was afraid of....the book is out of print.

So......can anyone recommend a good Bible dictionary that is written or compiled by a conservative O.T. scholar??

What do I mean by conservative?? Must believe in the inerrancy of the Scriptures....accepts Moses as the author of the Pentateuch....accepts only 1 Daniel...and 1 Isaiah authorship...and rejects fragmentary hypothesis theories. (There....that will give you an idea of what I'm looking for....something in the line of E.J. Young.)

I would appreciate any help. Also....please supply publisher and ISBN if available.

The dictionary I use is "The New Bible Dictionary" and it was recommended to me by Doc Smith a long time ago. It has been updated since I bought mine so I can't give the current ISBN. It is "fairly" conservative as it is a collection of different writers that specialize in the field they write about. The material is more than what is in most dictionaries. It is actually like a one volume encyclopedia. It's the best one that I know about. I've been out of the book biz for awhile so there may be something to come along that's better, but I doubt it. The original was edited by F.F. Bruce. Don't know about the updated one.
