Hi again, Today I recived a 100mm 2.8 series E lens that I bought in Ebay some time ago, it seems a very nice lens, I went out to the street with it and found the perspective just wonderfull enough tele to get the backround apart but still wide ebough to not isolate objects, it was very pleasent, so untill i have the photos I wouild love to hear some comments about this lens, thing to aboid and stuff like that. By the way this is the metal ring version with quite big rear element, not the all plastic lens.

The Nikon 100/2.8E is a wonderful lens. I think it's the equal of the vaunted 105/2.5 in every way except build and maximum aperture. And in some ways, such as compactness and light weight, it is superior.

My experience with one (metal ring version) was that it was slightly softer -- not less resolution, but a touch less contrast -- than the 105/2.5. Using the lens hood helped considerably -- the "proper" Nikon-built lens hood is a flimsy rubber hood (not at all like their usual HR-series rubber hoods), so save yourself some money and get a generic one. I also used the metal hood for the older 105/2.5 and it worked very well.

Yes its very compact and am glad it is!!! about the lens hood: I have a friend who has a 135 2.8 (which is larger, alot) the hood built into it is lower than the nikon metal hood I use for my 50mm!!!! just a detail I observed. I have a rubber hood that I use for the 80-200 and it works good, if I bend it a little it gets into the frame so I guess its quite in the correct size. I to noticed the "lower" built quality, but I feel it can be enough for me it is in pristine condition the only thing missing is the nylon bag and the box.

I even think about declining my 70-210 zoom search and insted keep the 100 and buy a 180 AFd I was offered.
