Anyone else having trouble downloading MS Y2K Fixes?greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread |
Is anyone else having trouble trying to get Microsoft Y2K updates downloaded off of the internet? I've been have that trouble even during the overnite hours. I keep getting in and getting a download started and then I get the panel popping up that tell me that is cannot connect blah blah...Is this due to extremely heavy downloading strains... or is there a another problem that I'm not aware of?
Most of my system is supposed to already be compliant...fairly new Gateway 2000 with bios compliance 'guaranteed' by mfr. I've got a Win 95 and don't really want to update to 98 at least not now. If I'm reading MS advisories correctly Win95 itself is okay but not with Outlook Express? Correct?
Also... is Win 98 really compliant. I thought someone here indicated there were Win 98 Y2K patches needed also?
Any thoughts or tips?

Downloaded Microsoft updates today, I experienced no problems.Probably just bad timing. One thing I learned in IT a long time ago, BUY IBM. May not be pretty, but it works.
Cheers

NOTHING Microsoft has produced prior to this year is Y2K compliant...absolutely NOTHING!!
Order the Win 98 Service Pack CD for $5 S&H from the Microsoft website...don't screw around with downloads, the CD has 59 Megabytes on it. They say 4 to 6 weeks for delivery, but mine arrived in just 4 days by Airborne (Express.)

Hi Dick,There are a couple of ways to get the updates. The Widwows Update Site, and the Windows Download site (aka the "master list" in the following thread.). If you have trouble with one, try the other. See this thread for hot-links:
I just found ANOTHER Win/95 Y2K update, not included in the Y2K "package"
There are also a few new Y2K updates not included in the original package that you can download, or get on CD. Just a few "minor issues" ...
Win/98 SECOND EDITION does look pretty good, at least MS hasn't announced any new Y2K updates. But the original version does need at least 2 Y2K updates. Both should show-up on the Windows Update site, noted in the link, or the 98 Download site. <:)=

Mary Kay,I had a similar problem a few days ago. Friends suggested that it might have to do with getting caught up in the heavy crush of traffic on MSN's website.
SYSMAN... Hey thanks for all your help there. I finally Succeeded.
