Tetanus antitoxin dosage? need?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
My eighty pound, six months Nubian doe was dog mauled. Most of the wounds are superficial, but there are two deep punctures. She was vaccinated when very young. Should I give tetanus anti-toxin? How many units for 80 pounds? Intermusclular or sub-cu? Help please, the vet is unavailable and the label doesn't have any information.

Kendy, go here and ask:You will have to apply to get in, but it just takes minutes and there is a wealth of knowledge and help waiting for you. I have an idea if it is the small vial from Caprine supply, you give the whole 1500 units, sub Q. But I'm not positive. Best go to that site and ask. good luck.

Tetanus anti-toxin vaccinations are good for one year. I hope she recovers soon.

Thanks for the help. I was able to get a home number of a vet I never have used. The single dose vials contain 1500 units in 1 cc. This is the appropriate dose for goat, cow or horse. Although she had 2 vaccines that included tetnus when very young I chose to give the antitoxin because of the seriousness and frequent fatality of tetnus infections. Normally I am not big on shots and prefer to let health and herbs handle problems. Neither of the involved dogs had been vaccinated.
