Fwd: Japanese Nukes Shutting Down?greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread |
From CS-y2k newsgroup, where it was posted after being forwarded from: y2k-nuclear@egroups.com (my how things get around!)3. NEWS: 21 plants in Japan are shutting down during the Y2K rollover period! This is from the December 4th edition of the Asahi Newspaper, local edition (Tokaimura area). This is big news. But they are trying not to make this look like a big deal -- no headlines or anything. We are trying to get more information from the activists in Japan, who are in close contact with some of our members.
I consider it only a rumor (of course) at this point. Note that the agenda of group in question is, I believe, somewhat anti-nuclear power to begin with.
Nonetheless, seemed worth posting here. Apologize if this is old 'news'. Anyone got any other info on this?

Pretty major, I'd say. News like this could REALLY start something. That is, unless of course, its not first suppresed or blacked-out, as was (or seems to be) the case of withg reportage of the nuclear accident at Oak Ridge, TN just yesterday ....>"<

as to it's veracity... one can only hope that it is true.
i don't think anyone is this country is going to make a move in that direction tho.
the nrc, after years of saying that the grid must be stable in order to insure the safe operation of the nukes has done a 180 and is now declaring that the nukes must stay up to insure the stability of the grid.
this apparent schizophrenia has been ignored by the media and the powers that be....
i don't believe we will be turning the nukes off in this country any time soon... too much money involved... the hell with the people -- it is the money that counts.

Does anyone have verification that this is NOT an urban myth? Where is our Mr. PNG?

yes sh... that's a good idea.a bomb has just been delivered to the front desk... let's discuss how poorly it's wrapped as opposed to how we intend to deal with the content.

Nuclear plants (plants = facilities that produce or reprocess fuel) are definetely shutting down during the rollover... as all companies in Japan will traditionally do from December 30th to January 4th.Nuclear power generating facilities will not be shutting down during the rollover.
