OK - everyone who has been asking for something CONCRETE from a manufacturer about the y2k risks to the Power Grid ... Here it is!

This is from one of the world's largest manufacturers of power systems and components for the electrical utility industry. They recently bought out the Electrical Power Systems Division of Westinghouse Electric, Inc. (For those of you who know anything at all about electrical power generation and distribution - THAT piece of information alone should give you an idea of the size and scope of this company.)

MY Analysis: Author repeatedly states many time the low risks involved ... but then goes to great detail many ways the system COULD come down. IMHO, taking in account the embedded circuitry or not ... here we have 'inside' information that clearly demonstrates that Electricity is in deep dung! All you have to do is read, occasionally between the lines - remember the admonishment about being wary of vested self-interests. The double-speak leaps out.

hiding in plain sight, The item from ABB is indeed very pertinent to the whole question of control of power systems should any part be affected by Y2K issues. It has already been discussed at some length on the euy2k forum, and for those who have access to that forum, I would recommend that you re-read that thread.

Thanks for the post. I have been following this forum for some time now and find your contributions to be consistently on topic and the links worthwhile reading.

For what it is worth, last night I ran in to a neighbor who works in the Senate. He was going to visit a nuclear power plant today on behalf of his boss specifically to dig for answers regarding Y2K. We talked for a good while. I told him to ask about contingency planning in the event of a blackout. I pointed him to this forum and to your posts.
