I'm looking for a good/reliable host for my new site. Don't want pop-up windows,embeded ads or a site that goes down more than usual. I do have a small amount of personal space from my ISP, But if I decide to have anything commercial the price goes from free to $30.00 per month. I would welcome any and all suggestions. Thanks John

My wife is using Icom, which charges $8.25/month. The price goes up if you do anything fancy, like secure ecommerce. Also she has told me that it is so-so if you plan to do any kind of cgi programming. But if you're doing a flat HTML site it's a great deal.

I use Infoseek. See, for example, htt p://homepages.infoseek.com/~alangibson/html/Argphoto.htm. No pop- up windows. On some of my pages, they have added a very discreet advert at the end of the page. If I run out of the 10MB limit, I can just create another site. As far as I know, it has never been unavailable, and response times are good. Best of all, it's free. I've never used it for anything other than static HTML. I think they, in common with other free places, have a 'no commercial' rule.

For commercial use, the fee will depend on how much space you want, what services (email, CGI, perl, database...), and perhaps even on the content. I am currently investigating some options, and have noticed that some specify 'no adult material'.
