Tokina ATX 17mm f3,5 AFgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread |
Hello, I want to buy a Tokina ATX 17mm f3,5 AF for Nikon, manuel use (F3) and AF use (F4). Can anybody give me an advice, tip or anything else to this lens? Optical quality seems to be better as the SL 17mm f3,5. Have anybody used this lens? Thank you for your helping. Regards, Ralf.

Ralf, Don't know exactly what you plan on shooting with this, but I have the lens and use it with my F100. I think it's great. A little tough to get used to 17mm, but not as difficult as many say.

Hallo Ralf,I have tested (without film) this lens on a local show with "Moose" Peterson. He uses it for landscapes, flowerbeds and such. In his words the lens is "sweet"! The coverage is super wide, mechanics and housing solid as a tank. Through the viewfinder I could not detect any distortion or vignetting (and I looked very carefully evenso Moose said it was perfect) with filter and lens hood attached. Filter size is 72mm. AF speed was OK on a F100. I fell in love with this lens and will certainly get one next year. The price in Germany is almost the same, so no need for US mail order!
May THE LIGHT be with you/Moege DAS LICHT mit Dir sein...

Thank you both for your helping. I'm sure, I will finding that lens under the Christmas tree. Many greetings and good luck with your shooting. Ralf

One other great thing about this lens... due to the price and performance, it's a great place to start when it comes to going super wide!!! I think you'll really like it. Have fun Christmas morning : )

I have a 20 year old manual focus version that sells today for $250 new.It works really, really well!
I sold my $2,000 15mm f/3.5 Nikkor (due to nasty flare) and keep the old 17/3.5 ATX lens.
I hope the AF version is as good for you. It is a differnet lens.

I use a Tokina 17mm f3.5 AF AT-X lens for some time now and it has been one of my favorite lenses in my camera bag. I compared this lens in different projects with Nikkor 16mm AF-D lens and I honestly like this one better. Too see some of images from this lens with Nikon N90s, check my story at ourworld.cs.com/wlin121262/web/river.html
