Early Monday morning, new computer software for milk production was installed at Tine's production plant for testing. The programs were designed to avoid any problems with the changeover to Year 2000. The test proved to be a disaster.

According to production manager Torleif Soerseth, something went wrong with the new programs, and they had to be removed. This caused delays in production and deliveries to Tine's 3000 customers in the Oslo area.

This was Tine's first system test to see if there would be any problem with the Year 2000. Failure means that it must be done again. Soerseth claims that when the time comes, computer programs will not affect milk deliveries. "Computers are a bit unpredictable, compared with cows." he says to Dagens Naeringsliv.

Okay - so the cows can continue to create milk - and, if provided heat and light in the barns, and power to milk them, and power to process the milk and store it safely, and trucks to deliver it to the processing centers, ..... but can the cows get the milk to the cusotmer?

Without walking around downtown - one cow per person needing milk, that is.

Would the residual distributed cow particle problem in the downtown streets be considered a partial y2k problem or why-to-kill-cows patty problem?

Hey , guys ! I think we missed a big one . This Oslo farmer can't get his milk delivered because of computer problems. Next statemnent ? " Computers will not cause a problem in 2000 !" Talk about denial and/or naked stupidity ... he's got my vote for Polly of the Year . Eagle
