what is a .bin and .cue file?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread |
I have a movie in VCD format that is in a *.bin format with a small *.cue file. I noticed that the bin file could be played with my mpg player, but I was wondering what the meaning of these two file types is and what they have to do with VCDs. Also, how do I burn a VCD from these two types of files, my CD program only allows mpg files to be added to the video CD burn window. Thanks in advance.

BIN/CUE is a cd image system from 'Golden Hawk Technologies CDRWin'. It is fairly common in the pirate scene, proven once more by the fact that you say you got a file there ;)Anyhow, you can extract a pure MPEG file from a bin/cue with a program called VCDGear, coded by a bloke called 'Dracore'
I dont know where to find it, its online somewhere, altavista for vcdgear and dracore and pray.

You could just burn the .cue file using Nero Burning Rom. The .cue files finds the VCD in the .bin file and burns it on the cd. Open Nero > File > Burn Image > and then look for your .cue file and burn away. Hint: sometimes .cue and .bin files won't work with the feature Track At Once so instead use Disc at Once:~

Well I have a stubbling question for you. If you have a bin file with no cue. Can you extract the bin file using deamon tools or is there a way to make a generic cue file to burn the bin with nero?

Creating an generic .cue file is simple enough, simple open notepad or the like and put the following in. FILE "***.BIN" BINARY TRACK 01 MODE1/2352 INDEX 01 00:00:00 where *** is your .BIN filename, then save this as a ***.CUE file.
