I tried for the first time to mount fiber paper prints on phaesite (I hope this is the correct english name, anyway it's a sort of wood). I used vinavil glue for wood, paper and similar material.

I did these steps:

1. Put the print in water with a little wetting agent. 2. Kept away as much water as possible with a rubber wipe. 3. Put the glue on the rear side with a brush 4. Put the print on the phaesite plate 5. Kept away air bubbles with a rubber cilinder 6. Put the mounted print face down on a glass with heavy loads on

Results? As a beginner not bad but I had a couple of problem.

1. It's very hard - during step 3 and 4 - to avoid glue stain on the print. I clean with good results with ilfostop 1:50 instead of 1:20. Glue instruction suggestion was water and white vinegar but I preferred stop bath. Do you think this will cause problem in the future?

2. The hard problem is that even with loads the phaesite plate now it's no more plane but hollow. I don't know what to do. Do you have any suggestion for this problem?

Answers

When you seal one side of a porous board, it will bow because the back side can absorb moisture. The solution is to seal both faces (front & back) of the board.
