Power Outage Gives Y2K Test Run!!!greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread |
We had a localized power outage on Saturday here in the northeast. It gave us a test run on all our Y2K purchases. We hooked up the generator after 4 hours and had it running keeping the food cool and watched a Video. Our 2 hurrican lamps worked great, putting out plenty of light. The gas grill outside with a side burner was a heaven sent as I made lunch of burgers and macaroni and cheese, then a huge pot of chicken soup for supper. We used pool water to flush the toilets and heat up to wash dishes by hand. Our propane heating stove worked wonderful. All I can say is I am glad I found out about Y2K and bought all that stuff, it came in handy. Our neighbor who made fun of me this summer when I asked him about Y2K was constintly calling us asking if we heard anything about when the electricity would be turned on.. He hadn't bothered to buy a generator, he had said that was the only thing he was going to get this summer, well looks like he never did get it..My husband who was so dead against getting all this stuff now walks around like a proud peacock because it worked so well. Well geez, I fought with him for weeks about it.. Men!!

Your DH sounds just like mine! Got to love'em. I love to hear how y2k preps or not just for y2k. Wake up people!

I,m on the other end- my wife admits the possibility but doesn't want to think about it, so the prep job is mine. However she remembers hurricane Fran so I have no trouble justifying the expense.

Ummm, ya gotta test yer preps. Get used to em. Use em. Dry runs and all that. Find out what does and doesn't work. Make up for what doesn't. Don't wait on this please. And that pool will be iced over in the winter. Hope ya got a good axe and can cut through the ice without getting dunked in (hypothermia) or chop a hole in the side of the pool, eh???
