Can a 135mm enlarging lens be used with a 645 neg?greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Printing & Finishing : One Thread |
I'm thinking about buying an enlarger that comes with a Componon-S F5.6-135mm lens. I would like to use it with 645 negatives. Normally, 80 mm lenses are reccomended for 645. Would a 135 lens work? What would be the effect?

The greater risk is using a shorter focal length than recommended. This will not cover the negative format adequately. A longer than advised focal length has the disadvantage that you need greater enlarger height for the same size print than the shorter (recommended) focal length. DJ

135mm is usually used with 4x5" negs. If it works, if there is a negative carrier for 645, and, make sure of this, if the enlarger does focus close enough for the smallest print size you are going to produce, well, why not? If you are going to make big prints there maybe is difficulties, too - the height of the enlarger sets the limit.Sakari
