Ok, is iut just me, or was eveyone else as pissed as I was that James Gandolfini did not receive the best male lead in a dramatic series award against Dennis Franz. I dig Dennis, but he ain't no Tony Soprano!I was definitely glad to see that Edie Falco won though. Go girl!

yes...i so wanted gandolfini to win...and was happy, as you were, to see that edie won.tell me that isn't the greatest show to come to television in a long time.

I was really hoping Paul Reiser would win. It's sort of sucky when the same people win over and over, in my opinion. There's so much talent out there, why not give some other people a chance? Since Mad About You is over, this would have been the perfect year for Paul to win. Oh well. But Helen Hunt again? The fourth time!? Come on!And I was wondering what the hell was up with Jenna Elfman's dress. I know, she likes to be a little "different". But there's good different, and there's bad different. She's funny though, so I'll let the smock of horrors slide.
The show was kept on schedule, which is rare but nice, but I would have liked to have heard some of the better speeches that got cut off by the music. I was glad Tracey Ullman won, because I think she is amazing. There were some pretty good laughs, and it was certainly a smooth production. No one fell down, or went off stage the wrong way (that I noticed anyway). No one made any major flubs except when Ricky, er, I mean RICK Schroeder mispronounced the winner's last name, whatever it was. And when did Rick's ears get so big? I had a mad crush on him during the Silver Spoons era, but I don't remember his ears catching quite that much wind before. And, he used to have a personality when he was little. Where did it go?
All in all, I enjoyed the show. I have never seen The Sopranos, so I wasn't upset that they didn't win, but everyone I know absolutely loves the show. I wish David E. Kelley hadn't won for both best drama and best comedy, just going back to the 'no fair to the others' problem I have, but I didn't lose any sleep over it.

I was also very disappointed that Sopranos got robbed. I don't watch The Practice enough to judge, but STILL! Sopranos is incredible. With any luck, it'll sweep next year. I read somewhere that it's tough for new shows to win lots of Emmys and maybe that's what happened.I was glad to see Garry Shandling joke around and Martin Short's "I have a Tony" thing was surprisingly funny.
Did somebody say Paul Reiser should have gotten an Emmy? Maybe if they had a category for "Least Amusing Supposedly Comedic Whining in a Prime Time Series Opposite an Oscar-Winning Actress." They he should totally get it.
Maybe it's just me, but award shows have just been boring lately. The MTV Awards were kind of a let down (even Chris Rock was only about 50 percent as funny as he usually is) and the Emmys were just not that exciting. Bring Ray Romano back as host!!!
Oh, and despite her choice of formal wear, Jenna Elfman was a really good host. A really good mix of silly and poised.

What was the deal with Lara Flynn Boyle hanging off of Jack Nicholson? Are they dating? It's not the age difference that disturbs me so much as that Nicholson felt so disrespected by television in his acting career that he has disrespected the medium at every other opportunity. And don't try and tell me that he's so in love with Boyle that he's relented on his position. He's been exercising the misogynistic muscles in his brain to Olympic levels in the last 35 years. It's time for him to let the young women go.

The Sopranos - totally robbed. Did Sex in the City win anything? I didn't see - it is also v. good, I think.Yeah, Paul Riser is not really too funny, is he? But, please. Is there anything sadder than him not winning for that damn show? Didn't he do everything on it from the concept to the theme song? Sad.
Sure, Skinny McBeal is inventive but, aren't we over it now? They do the same show every week: men are pigs, women pretend to be smart until they snag a man and then they act dumb until he dumps them and then they act like Diana Ross until the next one. Seen it.

Okay, you're all going to HATE me for this, but I am SOOOOO NOT over Ally McBeal OR The Practice (I just started watching TP a few weeks back.) I am SUCH a huge David fan. I didn't get to watch the Emmy's cuz I was at my parents' and the big screen TV, that would have been PERFECT for watching on, is being serviced. GAH!So, I had to catch some of the major winners in the news report (after The Practice, of course) and I was SO thrilled that AM and TP both won. I think my reaction was something along the lines of "YAY!!!" *Clap*clap*clap*Clap*
And I can understand how folks say "Aren't we over Ally, yet?" But they didn't WIN anything last year! They had to make up for it this year. *Grin*
And The Practice *is* just brilliant. I am so damn hooked on that show. I think I'm more hooked on that than I was on LoveLines wheN I was going through *that* phase.
Oh yeah, and in regards to "The Sopranos" and "Sex in the City" - I've never seen either. We don't have cable. I agree with someone I read yesterday - I think it was Kim of Fresh Hell, but I'm not sure - but this person said that they didn't think it was right that shows on pay channels got nominated. I have to agree on that one. This is the first year I've paid enough attention to The Emmy's to notice that that's what happened. I've never even HEARD of The Sopranos, then someone said something about HBO and I went: "Ohhhhhhhh. What?! Why the hell did THEY get nominated. They're on HBO for Pete's sake!"
But anyway. I'm prolly not qualified to make Emmy-proportioned decisions anyway since the extent of my TV watching *IS* Ally McBeal, The Practice, X-Files (when they're not in reruns) and That 70's Show. I think one of the reasons I was so glad AM and TP won is because they're the only shows nominated that I WATCH! YAY ME! If I'm gonna watch television, I'm gonna watch AWARD-WINNING television! YES!

Sorry for the typo earlier, I guess I need to read the stuff I post BEFORE I post it.:) I am a dork!Sarah Jessica Parker should also have won the best female lead in a comedy series award for SATC. I think one of her co-stars, the red- head (plays Amanda) I think she won the best supporting female in comedy series. We all know Helen Hunt is talented, she's already won 4 awards for her role on Mad, and an Oscar for Good as it Gets, give it a rest already.

The Sopranos is the best thing on television. It quite literally is television that is worth paying for. Most tv that I see is from wandering into the living room as my son channel-surfs... and maybe spend an hour or so a week watching something on HGTV, interesting enough I guess, but I wouldn't actually be watching it except my wife tuned it in... Sopranos is very special, I go out of my way to make sure that I remember to turn on the television to watch it. I don't think I've ever seen the Practice except as a guest appearance on an Ally McBeal show once. I watch the most tv when I am on a business trip, especially in another country, interesting to see their tv programs. (And it is very amusing to listen to Ally McBeal or The Simpsons dubbed into German, etc.) I've been thinking of switching to cable internet access and my wife says fine, but when we do that let's dump all the cable extra stuff and cut back to basic cable... and that's okay with me as long as we can still buy HBO if we only have basic cable.
The fact that the Sopranos did not win at the Emmy show simply shows that those so-called "awards" are as out-of-touch and irrelevant as the Grammy or the MTV things.

Lara Flynn Boyle and Jack Nicholson are dating. Earlier this year Lara jumped out of a car wreck in which Jack was driving, as she didn't want to be seen with him. I think it's because she didn't want the gossip columns to note their relationship, though clearly that didn't work, but I think it ought to have been because she suddenly realized he's a self-centered, misognynistic, nasty looking actor several hundred years old than she is.

I agree with Todd, Sarah Jessica should have won for best actress in a comedy. I love Sex in the City. I thought for sure it would win best comedy, but what do I know? I also love Friends, I know it is super trendy, but my husband and I love it. We laugh out loud. Friends is good for our marriage.I hope that I don't offend any Ally lovers but I don't even understand how that show is a comedy. I've watched it and yeah parts are funny, but most of the time I end up feeling sorry for poor little skinny lonely Ally. I find it to be kind of depressing!
By the way, Kristen Johnson (Third Rock) won for best supporting actress not the red head who plays Miranda. My beloved Sex in the City won nada.
