How to convert a MPEG to Quicktime

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am tring to convert a rather large mpeg file to quicktime format. Apple QuickTime 4.0.3 will open a mpeg file and let you play it. It will not hovever, convert the MPEG file to native quicktime format, or at least not will the audio intact. I have tried to open a new Quicktime file, import the mpeg file, then export to a quicktime movie. When I do this, the video works find but the audio is missing. I have found a TIL from apple stating that quicktime 3.0 will not extract the audio because mpeg mixes the video with the audio.

I wish to use ASTARTE M.Pack 3.0.1 to encode the file so that I may use Adaptec Toast to burn a VCD of the mpeg file. Until I can find a way to convert the mpeg to a quicktime, then from quicktime back to mpeg using ASTARTE M.Pack 3.0.1, I am stuck. What a big hassel. Does anybody know of a way to fool Toast into accepting the original mpeg I have or how to modify it so is accepted by Toast?

I can only help you telling you that the program ULEAD Video Editor v.5.2 does convert MPEG to QTIME. (www.ulead.com) The VE is the main program of a full package called ULEAD MEDIA STUDIO (like Word is to MS Office) but it's actually a NLE full package and rather expensive to use as a single converter.
