"Only the federal Government can take something valuable like paper and ink and turn it into something worthless like paper cerrency"

What is money worth? If the definition of one dollar is 100 cents and one cent is 1/100 of a dollar, ????

Jim...If your talking next year, what is money worth, I think the answer is simple. Its worth what someone will give you in exchange for it. It will also depend on the Y2K rick-ter scale. If the banks are un-able to maintain there digitial records, then cash will have to be highly prized. Folks will not know how to exchange gold for things, in this example, bartering goods for goods or for real cash or for quailty counterfeit will be the currency of the day.

Currency may be worthless but I bet I won't find you just giving it away.

The more devastating question is what is the hard earned life savings of an elderly person worth?

If you read the fine print on any loan or credit card agreement, it will say the account is payable in US dollars. As far as a mortgage or any other 'secured' debt any US dollars you happen to have available will cover that debt and whoever comes asking will represent your creditor. (If they can take your property, they can also take a payment). In this regard, cash will be worth what it is today for this type of debt. As far as unsecured debt, to heck with it......

Years ago US dollars were worth gold or silver....now they are worth DEBT. As far as post-trauma,...they will be worth whatever two people decide between them.
