Loose ends: summary of knowledge being sought -- generator and baterry manufacture, canning lids, and etc.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

As readers of this and other forums may have guessed from my continual collection and publication of material (e.g. my printable flyers, preparedness nuggets, Better Times Webzine, and etc.), I am hoping that the wide dissemination of knowledge previously available typically only to specialists, but nevertheless accessible by amateurs, will be an important aspect of post-Y2k recovery, especially if the pessimistic viewpoint turns out to be correct.

Here are some areas that I am still looking for information about:

1. Generator manufacturing. It surely seems possible to me that a generator could be manufactured in a well equipped backyard shop by a community or group of people determined to do so. Any ideas about this? (More than, eg. the lawnmower/alternator combination.)

2. Ditto question for manufacturing batteries.

3. Ditto question for canning lids. Mason jars will last a long time.

The improvised munitions handbook has info on making batterys(among other things). I think you can get a copy from Frugal Squirrels place. While there you might want to get a copy of the incendiaries manual. Don't flame me please, this stuff is important to know.
