I am looking for information about the BURRESS/BURRIS/BURRUS in Stanly County in the early 1800's. I have my ggg-grandfather, William Wesley(W.W.)Burress (the spelling could have changed along the way!!) born Aug 27, 1819. I found on his sons death certificate that he W.W.Burress, was born in Stanly County. It is hard to read of course but that is what it looks like.

I know that W.W. served in the Civil War in South Carolina, he was in the Spartanburg area. Later he moved here to Haywood County, where he lived the rest of his life.

W.W. Burress married Cynthia Ann Bagwell from Spartanburg, SC in about 1847, in SC. They had 11 children all but one born in South Carolina, my gg-grandfather Samuel Pinkney Burress, W.W.'s youngest son, was born here in Haywood County.

I am planning on doing some research in Stanly County, but I am looking for a lead to follow. Anything would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am looking at the 1850 Stanly County Census which has a large number of Burris's...I didn't copy the various other listings under other spellings. There are two Williams, ages 8 and 5 it would appear. There were other spellings however.

I am looking for more information on Anthony Burrows (Burris) and his wife Elizabeth who came from NC to TENN and then on to TX, one of his son's John Burris being my ancestor (lots of info from that time forward). I am trying to link them with brothers Joshua and Solomon who migrated from VA to NC and that area.

Any info might be helpful. I have more specific data at my office and can respond more accurately perhaps next week.

I have been working on the Burris line for over 15 yrs. I was very active on this up untill about 2-1/2 yrs ago then took a job that left me little time to continue my work, now have quit that job and desire to continue research. Have an interested group at Burris1738@yahoogroups , drop in there if possible and post something for all to see. Use Family Tree maker and have some files in FOwin.
