What's the best kind of frozen pizza?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Xeney : One Thread |
I've never been a frozen pizza kind of gal cuz they were never as good as the real thing. But the other night out of desperation, I grabbed a Tombstone Pepperoni and a Tombstone Supreme (2 for 1!). They were pretty good...the toppings were pretty sizable, the cheese good, and it cooked pretty easily on a cookie sheet in 15 minutes. My only complaint was that the crust was about as easy to cut as cardboard, and tasted about the same. Still, I was pleasantly surprised, and I wonder if anybody can recommend an especially good frozen pizza, or even a headsup on which to avoid.... thanks, s.p.s. and this relates to xeney _how_?

It related to Xeney because Xeney knows everything. But Xeney doesn't have an oven so she's a little out of the frozen pizza loop. However, I think DiGiornio (sp?) is supposed to be good. I'll have to pass this on to Jeremy, he's the expert.

DiGiorno (I don't know how to spell it either) and freshetta (I know I got this wrong too) are FAR superior to the tombstome stuff. Since I don't have an oven they all sound good right now, but the self rising dough in the newer ones is an entirely different beast from the old freeze dried cheese and crackers we remember as a kid.

See? I told you he'd know. My only question, Jeremy, is how do you know this stuff? Have you been sticking your frozen dough in other girls' ovens?(Sorry, that was bad, but I couldn't help myself.)

*groan*keep your day job, beth. really.
thanks jeremy, for the tip. and my sympathies on living with wacko lady,
s. p.s. he did say 'self-rising dough' so maybe you don't have anything to worry about, b. (except maybe that hairy palm thing....)

hey, wait a minute....what do you mean you don't have an oven? what about all those old djr stories about bringing in a homeless oven off the street?s.

Well, we did that, and now it's in our basement. It's been almost finished for a year.We would have been just fine if my mom hadn't bought us a hot plate. Now we have no incentive.

I may be the only person on the planet who feels this way, but:There's a special kind of pizza experience that can only come from nuking a non-microwavable pizza. Far from the crispy crusts and juicy toppings is the floppy mass that you get from sticking a little Tony's personal in your microwave for 10 minutes. It's strechy and chewy and elastic in this fun this doesn't really resemble food sort of way.
You do not slice a pizza prepared this way, you tear pieces off of it. Or simply lift the whole thing and bite from it. It is an experience.

Oh yes indeed. Quite an experience... (Actually, it does have a certain kind of charm).I have found that I quite like the Schwan's self-rising crust pizzas, they come out crispy and nice, and I want to eat more just for the crust.

I tend to like the DiGiorno Rising Crust Pizza. Damn good. But I grew up eating frozen Elios with extra cheese melted on top, so what do I know?
Ok, I admit it, I still eat the Elios too.

I go for Celeste Pizzas for One- cheese mostly, on sale a lot at the market for about 90 cents. Then I'll put my own veggies and extra cheese on them. Good, quick eatin', I tell ya.

Somehow I missed this question....can't believe it.I never had frozen pizza till just about a year ago when I had to get food for a party and something I could eat really fast, and grabbed one. It was a Tombstone Pizza for One. I couldn't believe how tasty it was. Later I tried the Red Baron individual pizza and it was just as good.
These were pepperoni.
You have to understand that my idea of a good pizza is very classic and almost plain. Tomato sauce, cheese, one or two meats. I don't like 'em with sun dried tomatoes or more vegetables or things that most people mean when they say "good pizza".
