For MONTHS now, I've been checking my local Sam's store(Lawton,OK) for the basami(sp?) rice and canned hams. SUCCESS!!Both items showed up this weekend....the rice was about 6.00 per 10 lbs; I know it's too much, but the taste/smell is worth it! The Danish canned hams were in one pound cans - three cans were packaged together for $5.27...not bad! I believe that Denmark is part of the common market and therefore have banned many different types of antibiotics in animal feed, that is used for promoting faster growth, not for sickness. Therefore I am relieved to find these hams - and bought about 36 of them.

I found Danish hams made by Plumrose, Inc, who, I think, supply to Sam's and many others. They have a website, just put in the word Plumrose in a web search engine. They have several different regional sales places and sell to the public. They are sold in 1, 2 and 3 pound hams.

That's Basmati rice. It's Indian, you know, from India. And yes it smells wonderful.

I personally prefer sticky sushi rice and short grain brown rice mixed together (more fiber), but the sushi rice is over $1/lb. and the brown rice is just almost $1/lb.

As I have pointed out on a previous thread, rice costs more water and energy to cook than pre-cooked couscous or bulghur wheat which can be obtained for about $1/lb. (couscous costs a bit more). Of course the nutritional value is different, but all will go well with different beans.

And while yer at BJ's or Sam's or Costco,...those 6 packs of Campbells Chunky soups can't be beat for heat and eat dining. They're filling and satisfying and the Potato ones are downright delicious. There aren't too many other ways of getting canned "sirlon steak" anyhow. We've been eating the old ones as we buy the new ones, and we haven't gotten sick of them yet. :) They go for $8.99 NOT CHEAP, but it would taste mighty fine on a cold post y2k eve.

Also the giant 40oz boxes of Ritz at $4.99, something to put all yer peanut butter and jelly on! :)

the Danish hams I found this time at SAM's are made by Danish Crown. The sku for them is 074900030139 (0 and 9 are a little separate from the other numbers, not sure if they should be included). In the Atlanta SAMs (make that Morrow, Ga), they were not with the regular canned food, but rather on the Christmas aisle with other special/gourmet foods for holidays. Hope that helps.

Has anyone tried the Danish Crown hams? I wish they would get the DAK hams back. I knew I should have bought more of them when they had them before.
