Pagers Out - Customer Service Lines All Busy!greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread |
So starting sometime yesterday my pager number suddenly went offline with a message saying that the number had been disconnected (this is in Portland, OR.)All day today, calls to the Airtouch Paging customer service line have been busy.
So is this the beginning of the end?

Jeff, you might want to check out the following thread where a poster wrote on July 29th, "Starting in about a week from now, the bulk of embeded systems which have hidden RTC in their lattice code will begin to fail. And these systems will each reach their infinity dates at different times than the first ones which fail . . ." http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=0019wE

Interesting...anyone else with anything to report on this?

Hello Jeff.I also live in Portland. While we have no pagers online at present, I can report to you that the airways were exceptionally clean today using cell phones and nextel two way communication. This has little to do with your post, but they do use the same technologies and airspace, so I can assume the disruption had nothing to do with the extremely bad, low frequency AM propagation from the coronal stream impacting earth just now. Unless of course it does have something to do with it. Anyway, none wants to hear about these things so I just keep the info to myself these days,
