I've shot my entire film and now need to edit on avid. I don't think the avid can read the time code on the tapes. I want to complete my edit, then run an edl in the on line suite for the final cut. What can I do to get a SMPTE or other form of usable time code for edit?

If you have shot on dv, its best to stay with a dv edit system. The problem with Avid is that it doesnt read the dv time code. A final cut pro, would be a better option for you. It reads the dv time code, and you can edit offline, and then upgrade to online using the EDL you generate. There is also a series of after effects and text work possible ( supers etc.)
