The VCD which I brought from India has *.dat files. I would like to know how to get started and if there is any programs that can directly run these files. Thanks

Use ActiveMovie in Windows 95/98 or for better compatibility. Buy Xing MPEGPlayer or Cyberlink PowerDVD. Instructions for each can be found in the help files. My rec. Get PowerDVD if you have an MMX enhanced processor as it is the best player thus far. Simply insert the movie and press the play button on the software.

Does't Quicktime 4 also plays this .dat file ?.

Quicktime 4.0 chokes on certain MPEG *.dat streams. It is better to get a real Video CD Player program. Saves on the headaches and having to ask a million questions.

In addition to the suggestion of using Quicktime 4.0:

It will work for Mac users but Windows 95/98 users can not use it.

I have to say that Power DVD is cack. The best thing to use to play Video CD's is WinDVD or Software Cinemaster.

I found that media player for win98 can play dat files. Simply go to file-open and then browes the cd for the dat file to play (usualy in the mpeg folder) simple and easy.

I have had no problems playing VideoCD's on a Mac with quicktime 4.0 and up until recently. I have aquired a few and burned htem to CD from .bin/.cue files and they do nothign but crash my computer.

Typically these VCD's have a MUSIC01.DAT file instead of the normal (by by standards anyway) AVSEQ01.dat file. Can someone tell me what the difference is in these files? I haven;t taken the time to open them both in a hex editor and do any looking around, but I cannot seem to play them on Windows machines either using Windows Media Player or various VCD/DVD software for Windows...

Any ideas would be appreciated and preferrably by email as I don;t check this site too often yet....
