I saw a new item that is in stock because of Y2k. It is a 6 pack of #10 cans from BearCreek Country Kitchens. Contents were a can each of Macaroni & Cheese Mix, Veg soup mix, potato flakes, carrots, beans, and something I can't remember. I thought the price of $60. was a little much. I already have 4 of their soup mixes. No question it is aimed at Y2k'ers. It is called Essentials and would appeal to someone trying to stock up fast.

Only 2 5000 Watt generators in stock. Plenty of 55 gal plastic barrels and Corona Grain Mills. Big Display of storage containers with the best deal being 3 21 gal with snap on lids for $13. Picked up more of the following: Paper Plates, Salt, Flour, Beef Stew, Gatorade Powder, Crisco, Sugar, Spam, Antifreeze, Bisquick, Coffee, Baking Soda, and Ziplocks.

I know my expiration dates and shelf life pretty well and there are still lots of things I will buy in October such as tomato products, some cheese products, cereals, etc. I am afraid to wait beyond October so I plan to be 99% before November.

Please add items you esp like and plan to buy at Sam's, Costco etc. and when you plan to purchase and add to your stocks.

I keep hearing about barrels, grain mills etc. at Sam's. Where do you all live?? I go to 2 different Sam's and I never see anything obviously y2k related.

In Cleveland, the barrels are stacked in the back, and there are a BUNCH of them. We haven't seen the mills, and when we asked, they weren't going to get them,as they are a SW regional thing (Clevelanders can barely SPELL tortijas, and MAYBE fritatas (rest my case) so we don't do a lot of our own corn milling)

My last trip to Sam's was several weeks ago, and I really was there for ordinary purchases (not Y2K related). I live in East Texas.

While I didn't see any Y2K-specific groupings, I did notice a very large aisle sign trumpeting BEANS and RICE. Decided, what the heck, as long as I'm here, but they were completely out of beans. I went ahead and bought more rice.

Central Gulf Sam's(Mobile-AL) doesn't have any barrels either (Hurricanes people)no lamps. Had a good deal on mini-mag and 3-cell lights ($20 for both) $28 if bought separately at Wal-mart, I got two sets, all gone in a week, they dad over 100...

No grain mills, their stuff rotates out pretty quick- WalMart's overstock??????

Walmart's got 12 ga shells (#8)for 2.58bx cheaper by the case around $30. Good for chasing folks off without hurting body or property.....first two rounds anyway....

Anybody bought food grade water containers (30 or 50 gal) around the central Gulf coast?

Anyone converted to propane from nat'l gas. I'm thinking of going full tilt propane, for the stove ($150), new frig (small $600) and chest frez (sm- $800) any ideas??

The city of Phoenix will not be y2k ok until the 4th quarter of the year (we hope) but our Sam's in the northcentral location is well stocked at the moment. BTW the 6th item in the BearCreek pack is apples.

My Sam's (Florida) didn't have any 55-gallon barrels in stock but they were able to get a club-to-club transfer from the Clearwater, FL club. Apparently Clearwater had about 300 on hand they were trying to get rid of. Check with the Special Order person at your club if you're looking for anything special. Apparently, the transfers are not that difficult to arrange, although you may have to pay shipping charges.

Just found barrels and Corona mills at Sam's in Oxnard, CA. The manager told me it was his call whether or not to order the barrels. Does anyone go to the Sam's in Seattle? It is the closest one to me. Do they carry the water barrels there? I sure didn't want to try to haul barrels from CA to Idaho. Did pick up the Corona though.

farmer....If you wish to buy larger bulk quanities on things such as rice, beans, sugar, salt then Costco is a good place to purchase. The prices are fair and they have a good selection of most y2k food items. If you don't have a member card get someone who does to go with you.....or you can buy a card when you go in.

You can join Sam's for $15 if you know someone who is a business member and get a referral card from them. In theory I guess you are pretending to be an employee of the business, but they don't check.
