I am seeking family of Samuel Culp who was living in Stanly County by the end of the war between the States. His wife was Christina Melchor, who died Aug. 5, 1918. Samuel was the son of David Culp, born c.1800.

Rowan County, North Carolina....Gold Hill.....I am familiar with two names Culp and Melchor. The Culp I remember lived in GoldHill during the 1950s when I used to visit my relatives. He was Caucasian. The Melchor I knew, and was related to, was that of a Lucy Melchor. She was African American. Not to say either is related; only to say that those are two of the popular names in and around the area. I am also related to African Americans such as House, Crowell, Heilig, and Culbertson. I also have heard of the Honeycutts, the Russells,and theTrents, and Hearne. These are old families of GoldHill, Black andWhite. Joseph

Connie, I have much info on family of Samuel Culp, son of David Culp and Catherine Styers. Married Christine Miller. Children were: Josephus Culp, Julia A. Culp, Daniel B. Culp, Mary V. Ben, you seem to have found our Samuel. My husband's grandfather was Charles Franklin Culp, b. June 17, 1867.
