VCD doesn't play on my DVD player

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I sent my old 8 mm movie tape to Hong Kong to convert into VCD on a Kodak digital Scientific disk specified to 1-6 speeds and I cann't play on my DVD player. My DVD is a Pioneer Model DV-505 which I have no problem to play any DVD, VCD and also audio CD since I had it a year ago. The symptom is that the DVD player reads the disk and display CD on the TV screen and reject it by opening the drawer after a few second. This symptom is similar to an uncompatable regions between the DVD and DVD palyer. However, the converted VCD is acceptable to a VCD player and also computer with MPEG facility. I have a quick check on the CD which I notice that it has the same files and sizes under the directory of CDI and VCD in comparation with a movie VCD. The shop produce the CD for me has no idea why it doesn't work and I have nowhere to turn to. Please help Regards, Stephen Ho

Your machine can not read CD-R or CD-RW type discs. Just to be sure, try another CD-R on it to see.

This issue has been addressed in several other postings in this forum. Spend a few minutes browsing through the different threads and you will find them. Basically, what it boils down to, is the type of CDR you are using. Memorex CDRW and silver-on-silver type CDRs work fine for most DVD players. Copy your VCD onto a Memorex CDRW and try it.
