I've managed to burn video CD's succesfully but although they play fine on my PC when I put them in my DVD player it just says "NO DISC", I have many store bought VCD's that play fine through my DVD player (a panasonic a100) Is there a specific brand that will be recognised by my player?

The answer is simple your dvd player cannot read any cdr disks. Reason: Your player has a single read 60 N Laser that can only read thin dvd streams from the cds.

The data on a video cd that is burned is a larger diameter and thus the laser cant read it.

If you had bout a sony or pioneer sencond generation machine with " Descrete dual laser pickup system" (Twin Lasers) the second laser is used for audio cd's ( CDs burned using the old data storage method), This also means cdr gold disks too as they are burned using the larger laser. It would work fine, I know coz ive tested it. The only way your player might work is if you buy some high brand sony silver recording surface disks or use cdrw disks with a more silver surface. The thin dvd lasers gets relected by blue or gold dye. Theres your answer...

Try some silver on silver cd-r discs. You can buy them at www.cd- recordable.com, but before making a complete order buy a sample pack for 3.00. Using the sample disc follow the instructions under the Simple CD-R Test For DVD Players thread.
