I've seen pictures with a white border and a small black line around the picture. Can I draw this line with a pen and what kind of ink should I use? Thanks,

Sure you can. Take a scrap photo into an office supply shop, and try out a few pens. The ones with a spirit ink, designed to write on anything (especially overhead projection slides) work well.

You may find it difficult avoid it looking as if it has been drawn on. I prefer photographic methods, just search the forum titles for 'border'. But don't let that stop you experimenting with pens!

I think the black line which you are referring to is created not by a black pen but by careful positioning of the negative on the enlarger.

take a 35 mm carrier, take a hard sand paper scrach the cutthrough rectangle from inside. only a little bit( aprox 1/4 mm from allsides) place your neg in the center you will get it thanx

I achieve this effect with a double mat, ~1/4 inch black mat showing under the white mat. I have an old easel taped to maintain an 8 1/2 x11 inch opening. I print on 11x14 paper, leaving very large white borders. When inserted into the double mat it gives a very finished professional appearance, like a floating mount without having to dry mount. Prints are instantly interchangeable for display.
