"Commerce Department Unveils Global Y2K Help Plan"

This is a good idea. Not only does it help the U.S. next year get raw materials from abroad that it needs, it also will help reduce any blame on the U.S. for originating the problem:

Dodd said he talked with NATO representatives about Y2K while he was attending a briefing on the ongoing fighting in Kosovo.

The Commerce Department's new plan is an ambitious combination of videotaped presentations, international conferences and the release of the "Y2K Self Help Tool," a CD-ROM published in eight languages (English, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish) for more than 100 countries.

The program is designed to help international businesses cope with the Year 2000 problem's effects on the entire supply chain of global trade. Daley, Dodd and Senate Year 2000 Committee Chairman Robert Bennett, R-Utah, all emphasized that if businesses in other countries tank because of Year 2000 problems, the US will suffer as well because of the large amount of foreign trade.

"Companies and systems all along the supply chain must be ready," Commerce Secretary William Daley said at the press conference. "We don't know all the consequences."

Are costs for this included in the 9 BILLION emergency dollars Clinton asked Congress to appropriate for the Kosovo campaign?

I thought we were running a surplus?

Another lie.

Right now, they're spending the "Social Security" surplus that creative bookeeping has created for the upcoming election cycle.

It's nice to know they're going to dig deep in all of OUR pockets to pay for the Y2K crisis. That way they won't blame the U.S. for it. I see how this works now.

How stupid of me.
