Solutions for using JVC GR-DVL9000 & JLIPgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
I have a JVC GR-DVL9000U which was bundled with their JLIP software and connection cables etc. However, my success in capturing the video VIA the JLIP Connection/Software has been frustrating at BEST!!! Normal function is "Communication Error". I have had some success one day - then another, with all the same settings the same tape and the same computer - Failure !!! - (could the phase of the MOON affect this?) In all seriousness, is there anyone with some suggestions? I have attempted to contact JVC with NO RESPONSE from them (Fine customer service, huh!).

Yeah! I have the same problem with the newer DVL 9500. I thought it was my computer(s). Guess not. I really love this camera, other than this glitch.

For those that are interested, This is the e-mail that I have sent to JVC - No Response as of 4/21/99.Again, great customer service. No matter how good the product is, if it isn't reliably functional it isn't worth the money, time or frustration. For me it is now past the MFG warranty period, so if this problem is actually the equipment then I must PAY more to resolve it.

This is the Third e-mail I have sent to your company regarding my questions, without a response. I'm very concerned in your lack of "Customer Care". I have spent a significant amount of money on your products (not just D-VCR) as well as significant time in attempt to make your J-Lip system perform adequately. I have a significant computer backgroud so I have tried many different methods to troubleshoot J-Lip. I have had the system for nearly a year and have had varying success making it work. In any case it is not consistant in any way. As I stated above I have tried to get feedback from your source without any response. The most concerting problem is that the download of any frame at any time and at any port speed and at any resolution will usually "hang" anywhere from 50 to 100% of the attempts. There are occasions where it may operate well enough at low transfer speed to get many of the frames done (Never at high baud). Then other times with the same connections, same settings and even the same tape, the system will not even function at all. My main questions are, once again: 1. This can certainly be either a malfunction in the camera circuitry for transfer, the physical connections between the camera and computer, the computer interface and or drivers itself or the J-LIP software. I have basically eliminated the computer component of this problem, in that I have connected the system to several different computer systems. I have used two different desktop computers configured differently. Both were Pentiums @233MHz with 64Mb RAM, one with Windows 95 the other with 98. Both systems failed consistently. I have connected the camera to two different Notebook computers again with the same unsatisfactory results. - NOW - Is there an inherant problem with J-LIP? Is there any updates from the version I am using V2.0??? Is there any forum discussing similar problems and hopefully solutions? 2. A second and maybe more significant concern is if the problem is actually in the camera itself. If this is the case it is nearing the end of the warranty period, although the problem has existed since I received the camera 5/12/98. As you know it would be difficult to determine early on since there is a certain learning curve and troubleshooting process to encounter first (which I have done). - SO - Is ther an inherant problem with the cameras interface?? Any suggestions on further troubleshooting this possibility?? 3. Does JVC CARE??????? At this point I'm sending this e-mail in hopes that JVC will respond in some manner rather than silence. I will be hoping that such a responce will be timely - maybe within the next two weeks? PLEASE HELP!!!! My next step would be to broadcast my experience over the NET, including my experience with JVC Customer Care response. Sincerely, JerryK@RKimages.com
