General Discussion: Category Explanation

greenspun.com : LUSENET : NeighborLink : One Thread

The General Discussion category is intended as the "catch-all" for anything people want to bring up that may not be covered by the other existing categories.

As explained in the "About" section of this forum (which everyone ought to read, by the way - it can be accessed by clicking the "About" link near the top of the main screen), it can be a good idea to "preface" your subject with the category name or abbreviation to make it easier for people to get an idea of what a thread's about. That may prove particularly true with this category. If, for instance, you wanted to initiate a discussion about generators, you might type it like this into the subject line of the text entry area that comes up when you click on "Ask a New Questions":

GEN D: Generators

Or, if you wanted to start a thread to get a discussion going on how people are dealing with y2k and their kids, you might want to add one more "identifier" at the beginning of the subject line by typing:

GEN D; Kids: What are you telling your kids and how are they reacting?

Or you might type:

GEN D; Kids: What are good things to stock up on for kids (games, books, etc.)?

New categories will probably emerge out of the General Discussion category as what people are interested in discussing, finding out about, etc. emerges. So be sure to categorize your intial posts in the text entry area (see that "About" section), and don't be shy about those prefaces on the subject line.

But basically, the General Discussion category is for whatever's on your mind about y2k preparation in our community.

Also: If you have a community preparation topic or question that you believe would be good to get input on from people beyond our community, the "Communication: Global" link, here and on the home page, will take you to the Millennium Salons forum where people from all over the country and world are asking questions and posting comments.
