The Cowles interview will remain online

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

FYI: In the intro to the Rick Cowles interview, I said that I would take it offline at the end of January, but the response has been so overwhelming that I decided to leave it online. I'll probably reformat part of it later to allow for its age, so to speak, but it will stay up for a good while yet.

For those of you who haven't read it yet, the URL is:

Andrea,

Well, that's scary- someone actually reading what I write :)

You could save yourself some effort & just go to our Web site, I guess... There's usually plenty there...

Hi Drew. I did put together that list of Y2K failures that you and others provided source links for. I posted it on this forum in the thread called List of Y2K failures - Here is proof. If you have time, check it out, and thanks again for your help. Here is the url: http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=000RSP

Regarding the Cowles interview, and all of your other efforts: They are very much appreciated - you must feel like a voice crying in the wilderness of journalism. LOL. Rob.

Rob,

Not only have I seen it, I intend to post it on our site. I thought I would cut & paste it, rather than link to it, so as to avoid overwhelming this forum's server, and eliminating the various replies, etc. I will credit you, of course. I'll probably put it up tomorrow. Any thoughts or problems, let me know.

Drew:

Wow. Thank you so much for posting it on your site, a lot more folks will see it and maybe it will be of help to those seeking "proof". I agree with your reasons to cut/paste instead of linking it - good idea. This forum deserves some credit also, which you are part of too, since they provided most of the informational sources. Basically, all I did was compile it into one place. It's up to you, I have never done anything like this and don't know how things work. Looking forward to seeing it there. This is exciting!

Rob,

I was going to post it today (Friday), but I had so much other stuff, I had to let it slide. But I'll get to it in the near future. I want to turn all the links into hotlinks too. And I'll be sure to give the forum credit; that is from whence it sprang, so to speak, so I definitely intended to do that.

Drew: Sounds great. :-)

-- Rob Michaels (sonofdust@net.com), February 05, 1999.

Rob,

Did I read a post of yours somewhere that you're a Y2K project manager?

Drew: Yes, you did, and I am - it is part of my responsibilities.

-- Rob Michaels (sonofdust@net.com), February 08, 1999.

Rob,

Please drop me an e-mail.

Hi Drew: I do not have a valid e-mail address that I can use to correspond with you. Is there some change in plans - can you say what's up?

-- Rob Michaels (sonofdust@net.com), February 09, 1999.

Rob,

No, no change in plans. I was just wanting some sort of very general bio type info I could use for when I post that examples list, like "Y2K Project Manager for medium-sized business" or something. I don't need any specifics you don't want to give.

Drew: I have worked in the IT industry for over twenty years, as a programmer, analyst, project leader, administrator, manager, and consultant. Most of my experience has been with large Fortune 500 companies. My current position includes Y2K project management. Hope this helps.

-- Rob Michaels (sonofdust@net.com), February 09, 1999.

Yes, excellent. That's exactly the type of stuff I can use. Thanks.

-- Drew Parkhill/CBN News (y2k@cbn.org), February 09, 1999.

Drew: Good. BTW, I have continued to update the list when I find something new. Also, since this is Ed's forum, do you think it would be appropriate to let him know ahead of time, perhaps via e-mail, of your intention to post it on your site - (as a courtesy)? Like I said before, I don't know the ropes - Just a thought.

-- Rob Michaels (sonofdust@net.com), February 10, 1999.

Rob,

How will you be updating the list? In that same thread?

Hadn't thought of letting Ed know; that's not generally considered necessary (to the best of my knowledge)- posts are lifted out of forums for other use on a semi-regular basis by sites like mine.

Drew: Yes, on the same thread. Since you are going to copy/paste this should be OK, right? I just wanted to continue to keep the list as current as possible. I saw that your site will be down this evening for that previously scheduled maintenance. Any idea about the "when" yet?

BTW, I will be offline starting this weekend for a few days.

-- Rob Michaels (sonofdust@net.com), February 12, 1999.

Rob,

Hopefully next Friday. I don't normally fool with the site much over the weekend, so whatever I post on Fridays gets greater visibility, since it has the weekend traffic as well as the Friday traffic. I am still pulling myself out from the huge hole I got into in January, carrying out my obligations on the TV side of things here.
