I've read all the questions and answers that are here, tried just about everything, and it still doesnt' work.

My Sony S7000 DVD players plays the Video CD's that came with my old Aptiva (good !).

I burned in a genuine HP CD-RW on my HP CD writer, using Easy CD Creator Deluxe, making a copy of one of my Video CD's (one that plays OK in the DVD player).

In Windows Explorer the two discs look the same (directory, files, etc), but the one I created is not 'seen' by the DVD player (bad!). The DVD player just says 'INSERT DISK', like it doesn't even know it's there.

So far I've followed every recommendation I've found. The only thing I can think of now is the 'color' of the CD. All my Video CD's are a 'misty silver' (same as a DVD or Laserdisc). The one that will not work (the HP CD-RW) is a 'blueish silver'.

Please help while I still have some hair left...

Answers

Some DVD players, especially fisrt generation, can not read CD-R or CD-RW. This may be the case with your machine. You can contact Sony to see if it will. Don't tell them you made a copy of a Video CD, tell them you made a music cd on your PC and it does not play on the DVD player. They should answer your question for you or even offer to fix it.

I called Sony and talked to the 'front line' of defense. After we got past the 'Is your television input on Video1 ?' type of questions, the un-informed lady finally went to find a 'specialist'.

Assuming that the 'specialist' is correct, NONE of the existing Sony DVD players will read a CD-R.

I asked about CD-RW, and got a 'no, probably not' from the un-informed lady. I decided not to press my luck.

I have a Sony S300. I made a copy of a video CD onto a KAO CD-R using Adaptec's program as well. It seems to work. I've only tried it on one video cd, however. Did you use the CD copier deluxe program?

I want transfer my VHS in VCD by my HP8100 cdwriter and play VCD on my psx whit VCD card adapter.

After capture, conversion I have mpg file, in PAL standard.

I use Easy CD Creator Deluxe for burn the VCD, but when I get the VCD in PSX it's seem not work.

I try in different mode to burn the CD (CD-i application,label,restriction category...) but the result is egual.

I understand that the problem is the standard,but my movie card is VCD 1.0-2.0 compliant, and the VCD that I create is VIDEOCD 2.0.

The VCD infact work on the PC and I can read whit software player. I saw that other VCD work in my move card and the differnet between both cd is CDI directory, and MPGNAV directory: 1) In original VCD there is AVSEQxx.dat 2) In VCD made by Easy CD creator there is MUSICxx.dat

What's the problem? What's the different? What's another tool the burn VCD?

OK, It works ! I captured an MPG using VideOH! and ClipView (with downloaded upgrade). I used Adaptec Easy CD Creator Deluxe to burn CD-R. It works in my Sony 7000 DVD player (which, by the way, does say "DVD/CD/Video CD" on the front!).

So why didn't it work before ? I'm not sure, but this time I chose the "Close" option when burning the CD (HP, gold color). Also, I wrote to a CD-R not CD-RW.

The CD I created has 6 folders/subdirectories - 1: Cdda (empty) 2: Cdi (7 files all with name starting CDI...) 3: Karaoke (empty) 4: Mpegav (File Music01.dat. This appears to have been created from my MPG. Small, only 5K, in my case. Will play on PC with Windows Media Player) 5: Segment (empty) 6: VCD (6 files, all *.VCD's)

I just hope I can make the next one work...

I am making audio and video CD on TDK CD-R74 (silver color) with a Acerburner and it works excelent. No problem all of them works.

To MAX...if you want to read your home made VCDs on your PSX, also need have installed the MOD chip on your Playstation. This chip make your console read blocked japanese/european/american games and most importantly, CD-Rs (music, copied games and copied VCDs).

THis chip is cheap, around US$8, but you have to open and install the chip, with the virtual annihilation of your warranty. Mine works fine, and i don't have any problems with my home made and original VCDs.

Just for interest WinonCD 3.5 burns and creates a avseqxx.dat file and the only vcd I ever got out of adaptec software burnt a musicxx.dat file and despite only loading one set of software at a time I have never been able to burn with adaptec since - strange! I once accidentally omited to close the disc and it was not readable either.

The other problem I seem to have with WinonCD is that it will not give the disc a name, I put the name in and it simply ignores it and comes up with a random number. Any anyone got an answer, with adaptec it at least held the given name? PowerPlayer comes up with the name and it would be nice to see what I put in.

How many tracks can you guys use on a VCD - mine quits after a total of 3 tracks of which only 2 are actual *.dat files?
