I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this before, but I recently rented the anime movie Golgo 13: Queen Bee, and the villaness is a female terrorist called the "Queen Bee". Well, she's tough, sexy (of course), and has this remarkable _voice_. It sounded so familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it until the end credits. The Queen Bee was voiced by none other than Denise Poirier, the voice of Aeon Flux!

This hit me like a ton of bricks. Man she's good! The movie is somewhat dark, philosophical, moody, and, like any good Japanimation, intense. Kind of like the Aeon Flux series except not as funny and or methaphoric. Oh yeah, and there's ah... steaminess in there too (but after doing Aeon, she should be used to making those noises ;) )

So if you like the way Aeon sounds, you might want to try this vid. Does anyone know of any other work she's done?

I have to say that after that intro I am dying to see it. I'm hetero to the core but there is something incredible about Poirier's mystique. Her voice indicates depths not previously heard before on female tones. She seems to be the woman all women should aspire to. I just wish I knew how she got there.

Paul, to answer your question, yes. Jack Fletcher was involved in dub to English on this. Really nice artwork, but Denise was the best. Her voice wasn't as pronouncingly sarcastic as Aeon Flux, a little softer but she is easily recognized. I wonder if it was made originally before or after Aeon Flux though, (the English dub version). As it turned out, it was re-released with a commentary on it between the director, (Osamu Dezaki) and the executive producer (Mataichiro Yamamoto). The interview is interesting because they discuss at length their wish to create a new female lead character, Sonia, who sleeps with a lot of men, and who they agree is different in the usual female characters, because she sleeps with a lot of men and yet keeps her stability, her coolness and her strength and balance. The go on to agree that this is not discussed to be dirty but to allow people to understand this female is not simple. Complicated. It's very interesting a discussion, and more is said than this but I was surprised at the tone of the intereview, the candidness of it. It helped me to understand what it must be like to make these movies, because you could see how involved the creators got in the characters, as one of them said, he was at the time of making it; in love with Sonia.

Since we're doing Denise Poirier sightings... I was flipping through the channels over Christmas break and caught the very end of a Seinfeld rerun - not enough to see the action or even identify the episode again, but the guest star was ... drumroll please ... Denise Poirier! Now I've gotta watch Seinfeld every single chance I get, hoping that that episode will come up again.

She plays the titular Queen Bee so her speaking lines are second only to Golgo 13 himself. I saw this movie a while ago, before I was really concerned with voice actors, I thought it was alright. Kinda short though.

Not surprisingly her role is very similar to Aeon. She is a revolutionary/terrorist/mercenary, what have you, with a great deal of emotional strength and a ton of sex appeal. In fact, in practically every scene she is either kissing someone, having sex, or completely naked.
