Plant-pot strikes again!greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread |
Having just read the list of techniques-banned, I just tried deleting my illicitly gained Asteroids score by editing it to zero, but I see it's still there in 2nd place. What can be done? Have I knackered everything? Why does it always seem to be me who puts the spanner amongst the pigeons?

Your score is still cool on stroids because all the votes are not in yet. In fact it was me that brought up ship hunting and spider hunting because they were very subjective and were on the edge of taking advantage of a weak point in the machine. What you need to do is vote! Vote! VOTE! That will help clarify the rules for us marpers on each individual game.
I, personally, voted for ship hunting because with ship hunting your not taking away any element of the game (it happens normally - i.e. you can still try to do this with rev 2 or deluxe although it is much harder). Voted against spider hunting because you are removing an element from the playing field (rev 2 of centipede addressed this issue i.e. the spider can come out in the first/second row of shrooms).
Anyway, we're still legit unless we get voted down. But I feel this would be extremely hard to police because ship hunting in stroids naturally occurs between levels. It would then be a subjective call on the amount of ship hunting :-P not fun.

I agree. I think that hunting's OK in asteroids, too. I'll wait and see how the vote turns out before removing your entry. The reason that your score stayed at the top when you set the score to zero is nothing to do with your plantpotness, and is more to do with mine. I put so many pigeons in the scripts which run the MARP page that it's difficult to find anywhere pigeon-free in which to leave one's spanner.
(Originally, I was 'thinking' that the score adjustments would be small enough that the order of the scores wouldn't be affected. That's clearly stoopid. I'll add this as another of the things which I need to fix in the scripts, but at the moment I'm too busy removing pigeons at my for-wages coding endevour (that's 'job' to you)...
Something I was wondering about: if you vote 'for' hunting, are you voting for it to be allowed, or for it to be banned? I wasn't clear which way the votes worked, so I didn't vote yet.
Chris.
