Enlarger bulbs have different intensities?greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Printing & Finishing : One Thread |
I have a bessler 23C11 enlarger that needs a PH140 bulb. I just replaced a broken bulb (GE) with a new one made by a different manufacturer (WKO). A print that originally took 12 seconds, now, with the new bulb, only needs 7 seconds. Obviously, all my times are going to be off. Is this normal? Is a stronger bulb better? Please help! Regina

Regular incandescent bulbs lose intensity as they age. The filament evaporates and deposits on the glass envelope, darkening it. The filament also burns dimmer as it thins. You have to be flexible in your printing technique to compensate for changing conditions.

Julio, BRASIL.
