Can you play VCD/CD-R in a dedicated VCD Player ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi there, I had started burning VCD/CD-R and can't play it in a Panasonic DVD. I tried to play it too with Pioneer and Aiwa Laser Disc (both VCD capable) but still it wont play. I just wanna know if someone has tried and succeeded playing VCD/CD-R in a dedicated VCD player?

Thanks very much for your site Mr.wvong, this site really helps a lot of VCD enthusiast - rem

Some older DVD players cannot play Vcd created or copied on Cd-r medium. My Pioneer 505 2nd generation DVD player just refused to play such disks but can play all commercial Vcds. This is a known fact. Most of the newer or 3rd generation of DVD players using dual discrete laser beams can play Vcd on Cd-r

As a rule all dedicated or home Vcd player should be able to play Vcd/Cdr unless the the player is an old model or the Vcd is not properly burned.

Just a note that Panasonic A100 doeas not play VCD that are burnt on CD-R. Tech support firmly say copied VCD shall not play on any of their products!

I just tried in Best Buy, my CD-R VCD on Pioneer DV-414 $350 or so worked just fine. The VCD was created using- AVI-MPEG1-Adaptec vcd writer.

You could probably find a VCD player somewhere, but why do that when for 39.95 you can get an APEX DVD player (model numbers have changed recently)that not only plays DVD's and audio CD's, but MP3 discs, JPEG photo discs, and CD-R's of VCDs that I make from the Usenet. As I have read somewhere, it "plays everything but soup can lids!" Hope this helps.
