Australian Information

I would be interested to contact other people in Australia following Y2K.

There seems to be virtually no information.

On the Utilities front I note that the official Y2K sites for Australian States have no mention. Energy Australia has no mention. Department of Energy has no mention. Queensland Govt issued a statement September 98 saying "we must start looking at this urgently"

So I have to assume the grid will go down

Bill,

Western Power has a good portion of their website devoted to Y2K. Go to http://www.wp corp.com.au/corpinfo/y2k_release.htm. There are more links to more Y2K info on that page.

Rick Cowles has said that Western is among the world leaders in addressing Y2K.

How does OZ control and fund its electric power and its grid?

Here (US) we'e got an incredible mix of natiional, city and state-regulated semi-private utilities that generate power, then sell it to grids and EMC's (rural cooperatives and other utilities (distribution groups) who get it to the consumers. Other groups (like TVA) are direct government "businesses" that generate and sell power and distribute power themselves.

Any less complicated down under? Other than your AC current goes backwards half the time. 8<)

Check out Joseph Sgroi's post at http://www.dishangel.com/y2k/1722.htm

He has an australian e-mail address

The Western Power story is very good news. Time to move to Perth?

is an interesting link. Some good co-operation happening between the US and Australian banks

The US cost of Y2K will exceed the vietnam war

I would be interested in hearing from people in South Australia. I am also interested in discussing water purification with anyone in Australia. It's hard to get anyone serious about this.

Well, I'm damn serious about this. I have pulled up stakes and moved 1000 kms from Sydney, New South Wales, to a small town in southern Queensland. Just looking at how our esteemed leaders handled the gas crisis in Victoria state and the water crisis in Sydney, should give anyone reason to fear... I don't think any of us have much time. Don't talk about it, just DO what you can. Now.

G'day!

I'm very interested and quite concerned and would like to connect with others who are also!

I notice that the NSW govt Y2K site with links to other Aussie sites at: http://www.y2k.gov.au/html/links.html seems to be taking it quite seriously but not quite as seriously as Victoria which is holding SME (Small & Medium Enterprise) seminars to get attention paid to the problem.

I believe a Victorian Minister of Parliament said that if just 10% of small business went down with the Y2K bug, that it would bring on a recession catastrophe! They sure as hell seem worried!

Given Mr Howard's pals are in power again and having seen how they dealt with the Warfies, I wonder what is in store for us sheep?

Wanna get an Aussie E-mail discussion list started? It can start with us!

Cheers

Cathal
