Dear Sirs:

Is Nikon planning to bring out a 28-80 AF D 2.8 lens in the near future? Something that would be comparable to Tamron's AF 28-105 2.8, but with the quality of Nikon's 20-35 AF 2.8?

Also how good is Tamron's 28-105 AF 2.8 lens? The photo books give it an okay write up, but their payed to do so. I would like an unbiased opinion please.

Daryl Maher, I copied the following from photonet.

"I've read some tests about the Tamron 28-105/2.8 in two french magazines Chasseur d'Images and Riponses Photo and in one German magazine called FOTO-magazin. Conclusion : Poor results wide-open, vignetting, distortion, huge shade,impressive (read expensive) filter size (82mm) and expensive. Really not worth the money."

Daryl, unfortunately, Nikon is not going to release 28-80 AF D 2.8 lens this time. However, they will come out with AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8 early next year. See my post at the following address. The bad news is it seems it
fs gonna cost a lot more and takes huge 77mm filter on it. I wonder if I could afford to buy one.
